The proper care of teeth

Although dentists can do wonders like whiten, fix, cure, fill or replace teeth, you still have a lot of things to do. Experts recommend habitual flossing, brushing, being mindful of the things you put in your mouth as well as avoiding hard objects to enter your mouth. A periodontics professor states that trouble comes from chewing hard objects like paper clips, pencils and other similar materials. Those who put things in their mouths tend to insert them in the exact place each time. This causes eventual harm not only to the teeth but also on the gum line because the force on chewing makes the teeth stray from its place in the gum line.

A huge surprise comes from ingesting acidic food like citrus. People create unseen harm on both their teeth and gums when they take a log of citrus juices on the belief that they are boosting their health. Do not let your mouth get dry while on medication and other prescriptions. The natural teeth and gum cleanser comes in saliva flow and composition but this can be reduced by blood pressure medicines, and drugs like muscle relaxants, tranquilizers and the like.

He also reminds those who are on drugs that cause the saliva to dry up to never forget to thoroughly rinse their mouths right after brushing their teeth or even just eating. Ensuring that you sip water throughout the day and try to stimulate saliva through chewing of gum or paraffin is important. For those who need a hand, they can ask their dentists for artificial saliva.

Being someplace from home often disables some people to brush their teeth on times when they should. Rinsing the mouth vigorously after meals eaten out is a good alternative when there is no tooth brush and toothpaste. In order to eliminate all the materials caught in between the teeth, swishing water vigorously around the teeth is a sound idea. During brushing, it’s important to have a brush with tender bristles and doing it in a circular manner. With improper brushing techniques and the use of a tough bristled brush, the tooth can be damaged as it causes corrosion of the gums.

The associate professor reveals that by a simple dental floss string, a lot of tooth decay problems can be avoided. Floss can remove plaque that a brush misses, such as the spaces between the teeth and just under the gum. Just as long as the flossing method is correct, the kind of floss need not matter, according to him. Use the floss at all the sides of the teeth and lower it until you cleanse the gum area but make sure that with the resistance, no pain arises.

The professor shares that while there might be some bleeding at the onset of flossing, this is not a serious thing at all. As you continue flossing and nurturing your gums, the bleeding should stop in less than a couple of weeks. Floss should be used every day, both by adults and children, especially after permanent teeth are in place. Young children must start using dental floss in order to avoid periodontal diseases and other problems that starts early on and worsens with time.
